About the role
Ocean to Earth Recruitment is working with a growing environmental consultancy looking to appoint an experienced Senior Ecologist to support its continued growth across Northern Ireland, with a particular focus on Belfast and the surrounding area.
This is a strong opportunity for an ecologist who enjoys combining technical consultancy, fieldwork, project management and mentoring, while taking greater ownership of projects and client relationships.

You will manage a varied portfolio of ecology projects across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, with responsibilities including:
Managing ecological projects from initial client discussions through to delivery
Undertaking and overseeing ecological surveys
Preparing Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA)

Designing and implementing ecological mitigation
Undertaking Ecological Clerk of Works duties
Supervising field teams and survey programmes
Providing technical review and sign-off
Mentoring and developing junior ecologists
Managing project finances and programmes
Building strong client relationships
Supporting business development
What we’re looking for
You will already have established ecological consultancy experience and be confident managing your own projects and making technical decisions.

A degree in Ecology or a related discipline
Around 3 to 5 years' post-graduate consultancy experience
Protected habitats and species work
EcIA and technical report writing
Invasive species management
Knowledge of UK, Irish and EU wildlife legislation

Client management
Mentoring or supporting less experienced colleagues
CIEEM membership would be beneficial, although it is not essential. A full driving licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork and occasional travel will be required.
Why consider this opportunity?
This role offers a good balance between technical ecology and progression. You will remain actively involved in project delivery while developing further across project management, client engagement, mentoring and leadership.
The package includes:
25 days' annual leave, rising to 29 after two years
Public holidays
Private health insurance
Company pension
Annual and performance-related bonus schemes
Paid professional memberships
Fully funded training and development
Flexible family and extended leave options

The role will be Belfast-focused, with hybrid working and projects across Northern Ireland, alongside opportunities to support work in the Republic of Ireland.
If you are a Senior Ecologist based in or around Belfast and looking for a role with technical variety, autonomy and clear progression, contact Vicky Kenrick at Ocean to Earth Recruitment for a confidential conversation.
