1. Who we are

Environment.jobs is a UK job platform for environmental, sustainability and related careers. The controller for personal data collected through this website is Daniel Howarth trading as Environment.jobs.

Our legal operator details and business address are set out in our Terms and Conditions.

2. Who this policy covers

  • candidates and site visitors;
  • employer users;
  • recruitment-agency users;
  • newsletter subscribers;
  • business contacts;
  • anyone who contacts Environment.jobs.

3. Account information

  • email address;
  • account identifier;
  • account role (candidate, employer, administrator);
  • authentication and account status information.

Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored in hashed form. Environment.jobs does not have access to plain-text passwords.

4. Candidate data

  • saved jobs;
  • followed employers;
  • email preferences;
  • account preferences.

Environment.jobs currently does not operate:

  • CV uploads;
  • cover-letter uploads;
  • a public candidate CV database;
  • employer searching of candidates;
  • in-platform job applications.

5. Employer and recruitment-agency data

  • organisation name;
  • Employer Profile content;
  • website and logo;
  • business contact details;
  • job advert data;
  • optional job contact details;
  • moderation information;
  • Founding Employer applications;
  • advertising entitlements.

6. Payment data

  • transaction amount and currency;
  • the listing purchased;
  • payment status;
  • internal identifiers;
  • Stripe identifiers;
  • purchase date;
  • resulting entitlement.

Environment.jobs does not store full payment-card numbers or CVC codes.

7. Newsletter data

Email address, subscription state and preferences, and unsubscribe/suppression state.

8. Usage and security data

Job-page views, outbound Apply clicks, timestamps, technical and security logs, and IP/device information where generated by our hosting and security infrastructure.

An Apply click records only that an external application link was selected. It is not a confirmed completed application.

9. Communications and enquiries

When you contact us we process your message, contact details and any information you include, so we can respond and keep a record of the enquiry.

10. Other sources

We may receive limited information from our authentication, payment and service providers, and from legitimate publicly available business-to-business sources when contacting organisations about advertising.

12. Public information

Published job adverts and approved public Employer Profiles are public. They may be indexed by search engines, shared and promoted through our channels.

13. Candidate applications

Applications take place on the employer's or recruiter's own website or application system. From the point you leave Environment.jobs, that organisation is responsible for the application data you submit and applies its own privacy policy.

14. Stripe

Paid advertising is processed by Stripe, which handles payment processing, transaction security and fraud prevention. Stripe's own privacy framework also applies to that processing.

15. Sharing your data

We share personal data with the service providers needed to run the platform (see our sub-processors and service providers), where required by law or a regulator, and with professional advisers where necessary.

We do not sell personal data to advertisers.

16. International transfers

Some of our providers operate internationally, so personal data may be processed outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on an applicable UK adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or Standard Contractual Clauses. We cannot guarantee a specific processing location for every provider.

17. Retention

  • account data is retained while needed to operate your account;
  • job, moderation and commercial records may be retained for legal, business, security and dispute purposes;
  • contractual records may be retained for up to six years where appropriate;
  • accounting and payment records are retained for the statutory period;
  • unsubscribe suppression records are retained for as long as needed to honour your choice;
  • security logs are retained only as long as reasonably necessary.

18. Your rights

Subject to the conditions in UK GDPR, you may request:

  • access to your personal data;
  • correction of inaccurate data;
  • deletion;
  • restriction of processing;
  • objection to processing;
  • data portability;
  • withdrawal of consent where processing is based on consent.

Requests: GDPR@environment.jobs. Account holders can also export or delete their data from the dashboard.

19. Direct marketing

You can object to direct marketing at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails, changing your email preferences, or emailing GDPR@environment.jobs.

20. Data-protection complaints

You can raise a data-protection complaint electronically at GDPR@environment.jobs. We will acknowledge a qualifying complaint within 30 days, investigate it, keep you informed of progress and respond without undue delay.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office — ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

21. Security

Connections are encrypted with TLS. Access is protected by authentication, database row-level security and restricted administrator controls.

22. Children

Environment.jobs is not intended for anyone under 16.

24. Automated decision-making

We do not currently carry out solely automated decision-making that produces legal effects or similarly significant effects for individuals.
