About the role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is supporting an established and expanding environmental consultancy with several appointments across its ecology teams.

Opportunities are available for Ecological Project Officers, Ecological Consultants, Senior Ecological Consultants and Principal Ecological Consultants, offering career development at different levels of experience.

These positions would suit ecologists who enjoy varied project work, value a supportive team environment and want to contribute to biodiversity conservation and responsible development.

Whether your strengths lie in field surveys, ecological reporting, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), project management or technical leadership, there is scope to develop your career in a direction that reflects your interests and experience.

The Role

Responsibilities will vary depending on the level of appointment and may include:

  • Undertaking habitat assessments, UKHab surveys and protected species surveys.

  • Preparing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs) and other technical reports.

  • Completing Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and supporting biodiversity enhancement strategies.

  • Developing ecological mitigation, compensation and habitat management recommendations.

  • Providing ecological advice for planning applications, infrastructure and development projects.

  • Managing projects, budgets, deadlines and client relationships.

  • Working alongside experienced ecologists and other environmental specialists.

  • Supporting junior colleagues and contributing to team development at senior and principal levels.

There are opportunities to combine practical ecological work with technical consultancy, project delivery and leadership responsibilities.

About You

We welcome applications from ecologists with a range of professional backgrounds and specialisms.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A relevant qualification in ecology, environmental science or a related subject.

  • Experience in ecological consultancy or a comparable environmental role.

  • Knowledge of UK ecological legislation, habitats and protected species.

  • Experience in ecological surveys, assessments or report writing.

  • An interest in developing technical expertise and delivering high-quality ecological advice.

  • Strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills.

For more senior positions, experience in project management, client liaison, technical review or mentoring would be beneficial.

Protected species licences, CIEEM membership and specialist botanical or BNG expertise would be advantageous, although not essential for every appointment.

Salary and Benefits

The consultancy offers a competitive salary based on experience, alongside a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • 7% employer pension contribution.

  • 24 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, with additional leave available through length of service.

  • Remote and flexible working arrangements.

  • Discretionary performance-related bonus.

  • Paid overtime and Time Off in Lieu (TOIL).

  • Employee assistance programme.

  • Training and continuing professional development.

  • Opportunities to gain protected species licences and broaden technical expertise.

  • Career progression into senior technical, project management and leadership roles.

  • A collaborative working culture with an emphasis on employee wellbeing.

Why Explore This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join a consultancy where professional development, ecological expertise and employee wellbeing are valued.

You will have the chance to work across varied ecological projects, develop your technical specialisms and take on additional responsibility as your career progresses.

For experienced ecologists, there is scope to contribute to project leadership, mentoring and the continued development of the team.

For those earlier in their careers, the organisation offers opportunities to learn from experienced colleagues and build confidence across ecological consultancy work.
