About the role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is working with an established, employee-owned specialist water and environmental consultancy looking to appoint a Principal or Associate EIA Consultant in Cardiff.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced environmental consultant who wants senior-level responsibility while remaining closely involved in technical delivery. You will join a small, highly experienced team with considerable autonomy and direct access to senior technical expertise.

The role

You will take a leading role in Environmental Impact Assessment work, with a particular focus on hydrology and the water environment, supporting major projects across renewable energy, power, transport and development.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and authoring hydrology and water environment EIA chapters

  • Delivering and reviewing environmental assessments for major projects

  • Providing senior technical review and quality assurance

  • Interpreting hydrological, hydrogeological, water quality and environmental data

  • Assessing potential effects on the water environment and developing mitigation

  • Scoping technical assessments and determining proportionate EIA approaches

  • Working directly with clients, regulators and multidisciplinary project teams

  • Managing projects, programmes and budgets

  • Using GIS and analytical tools to communicate technical information

  • Supporting proposals and work winning

  • Contributing to technical methods, processes and tools

There is also scope to work across related areas including hydrogeology, water quality and LowFlows assessments, depending on your expertise and interests.

What we’re looking for

You will already have strong environmental consultancy experience at Principal, Associate or equivalent level and be comfortable taking ownership of technical EIA delivery.

We are particularly interested in experience of:

  • Hydrology and water environment EIA

  • Authoring or technically reviewing EIA chapters

  • Infrastructure, renewable energy, transport or major development projects

  • UK water environment regulation and consenting

  • Technical report writing and review

  • Client and stakeholder management

  • Managing projects independently

A relevant degree is required, with postgraduate qualifications, Chartered status or relevant professional membership welcomed.

Why consider this opportunity?

This role could particularly appeal if you enjoy the technical side of consultancy and want progression without moving away from the work itself.

The consultancy combines specialist water environment expertise with hydrological analysis, modelling and software development. Its smaller structure means experienced consultants can have genuine influence over projects, technical approaches and the wider development of the business.

The package includes:

  • £45,000 to £60,000 salary

  • Employee-owned working environment

  • 40.5 days' holiday, with options to buy or sell additional leave

  • Tax-free employee ownership bonus, subject to performance

  • Additional performance-related bonus

  • Employer-matched pension

  • Flexible working hours

  • Medicash health plan

  • Five dedicated professional development days each year

  • Professional membership support

  • Annual environmental volunteering day

If you are a Principal or Associate-level environmental consultant looking for greater technical autonomy and a specialist water environment role, contact Vicky Kenrick at Ocean to Earth Recruitment for a confidential conversation.
