About the role
Ocean to Earth Recruitment is working with a growing environmental consultancy looking to appoint an Associate / Head of Hydrogeology to lead and develop its hydrogeology and flood risk capability.
This is a senior opportunity for an experienced hydrogeologist who wants a blend of technical leadership, team development, project oversight and commercial influence, while remaining close to technically interesting work.
The role
You will lead a small specialist team and take responsibility for the day-to-day direction of the hydrogeology and flood risk function.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading and developing hydrogeologists and flood risk consultants
Providing senior technical oversight across groundwater, hydrogeology, water resources and flood risk projects
Reviewing technical work and maintaining high standards across project delivery
Managing project programmes, budgets and resources
Supporting and shaping team workload and resourcing
Building strong relationships with clients, regulators and other stakeholders
Leading fee proposals and contributing to business development
Identifying opportunities to grow the hydrogeology offering
Improving technical processes, systems and ways of working
Supporting the wider strategic development of the environmental business
What we’re looking for
You will already have substantial consultancy experience within hydrogeology, groundwater or water resources, together with the confidence to lead both people and projects.
Relevant experience is likely to include:
Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology or a related discipline
MSc in Hydrogeology or similar, ideally
Strong knowledge of groundwater and UK hydrogeological practice
Experience leading technical projects and reviewing complex work
Team leadership, mentoring or line management
Project and financial management
Client development and commercial awareness
Good understanding of UK regulatory frameworks
Strong technical report writing and communication skills
This could suit an experienced Associate Hydrogeologist ready to take ownership of a discipline, or someone already operating at Head of Hydrogeology level who would value greater influence within a growing consultancy.
