Carbon roles cover the technical heart of decarbonisation: measuring emissions accurately, verifying them against ISO 14064 / 14067 or GHG Protocol, and reporting them into corporate disclosures, product footprints or voluntary carbon market registries.

Corporate carbon accountants work in-house or at consultancies building Scope 1/2/3 inventories, engaging suppliers on primary data, and preparing figures for CDP, SBTi, TCFD and CSRD disclosure. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) specialists cover product-level footprints — increasingly critical as customers ask for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs).

Carbon markets is a smaller but growing area — project developers, ratings analysts (Sylvera, BeZero) and market participants working on voluntary and compliance carbon credits.
