Remote-friendly hiring has expanded significantly across the environmental sector since 2020, particularly in disciplines where the work is primarily desk-based: ESG reporting, carbon accounting, sustainability consulting, climate risk analysis and policy work.
Fully remote roles are most common at climate-tech scale-ups (Watershed, Plan A, Sylvera, Sweep), at international NGOs, and in ESG data (MSCI, Sustainalytics). Hybrid roles — typically 2–3 days in the office — are the norm at large consultancies and in-house corporate teams.
